NY-22 Minute: Tenney Apologizes for Syracuse University Comments By Luke Perry
On Wednesday the NY-22 Minute examined Claudia Tenney’s assertions that Syracuse University (SU) endorsed the GOP tax cut bills. Yesterday SU’s Vice Chancellor Mike Haynie, called the claim "categorically false. ”
“To be clear,” Haynie explained in a statement, “To suggest that Syracuse University has endorsed or supports the tax reform legislation currently making its way through Congress is categorically false.”
Today Congresswoman Tenney apologized for the comments as reported by Mark Weiner at Syracuse.com.
Hannah Andrews, Tenney's Deputy Chief of Staff and Communications Director, stated that: "Rep. Tenney misspoke during an interview Wednesday morning about Syracuse University's position on the tax reform plan. She apologizes for any confusion that this may have caused and fully understands the university's position on the tax plan."
Ms. Andrews stated that she contacted university officials on Tenney’s behalf and explained that Tenney mistakenly confused a student editorial for the formal position of the university, a possibility originally raised in the NY-22 Minute piece. Tenney also made the same mistake in asserting that the Syracuse Post Standard endorsed the tax cut bill as well.
