President Biden's honeymoon continues By John Zogby
The honeymoon continues for President Biden. His polling numbers are strong with a 60% approval rating, including 22% from Republicans. He also gets high marks for handling the top issue of the day, the COVID-19 pandemic, with 44% of Republicans weighing in positively.
These numbers are before projections of a 6% growth in GDP. He was able to get his $1.94 trillion stimulus package through the House and likely a slightly modified version in the Senate. And he is getting his appointees to senior positions through with at least some bipartisan support.
What makes his high numbers stand out are the spiraling approval ratings of the governors of California, Texas, and New York. The Golden State's Gov. Gavin Newsom will be lucky to survive a recall vote. The Lone Star State's Gov. Greg Abbott will be lucky to survive an order to open up the state 100%. And the Empire State's Gov. Andrew Cuomo will be lucky to get out of town. Tougher problems face Biden — notably immigration and healthcare. But for now, he is doing just fine.
